A Diabetes Story And Looking For A Free Glucometer

Since I can remember him, my uncle Tom was always a food lover. He was always a fat guy as far as I could recall.

His wife, Aunt Matilda was invariably telling him to reduce his intake of food. Poor aunt Matilda always did her best to cook the kind of foods which are recommended by nutritionists and as much as I know, she always cooked healthy meals for her family. Matila will not prepare any after meal desserts, unless it was some special day.

Alas, uncle Tom possesses a sweet tooth and in his opinion a meal without dessert just isn't a complete one. Because of this, Tom took a habit of going to the supermarket to obtain sweets, or some other "missing" items that his wife does not usually buy. Aunt Matilda would always say that after her husband opened a packet of biscuits, it was not the first time that he used to eat all the packet. You need to not forget that my uncle works in an office, so who knows what type of food does he consume during work hours. I know that a sandwich and apple will never satisfy his hunger and who know how many sweets does he eat during work.

My uncle never paid attention to his doctor's advice to limit his food intake. Tom could be very stubborn by nature so when his wife or close relatives tell him that he needs to shed weight, he usually does the reverse simply to show them his disapproval.

Tom's children (my cousins) also love sweets. Since childhood they got accustomed to their father's love for sweets, so this could be expected.

A month ago, uncle Tom was informed that he has diabetes type 2. Because the doctor explained to him what the repercussions of type 2 diabetes could possibly be, my uncle got amused and bewildered.

His doctor told my uncle he need to get hold of glucose meter or register for a free glucose meter online. His doctor told him that the first thing he has to do is watching what food he eats, especially where sweets are involved.

The words of his doctor had a horrible impact on my uncle. All of a sudden Tom started eating less sweets but this fact, together with the whole diabetes story made him quite depressed.

However, Tom still has to follow his doctor's advice in getting a glucose meter. A few days ago I Googled for "glucose meters". It was then that I found a website that permits you to acquire a free glucose meter. A point I would like to mention is the fact that glucose meters are also known as glucometers. So I have registered using my uncle's details to get a free glucometer.

This is the least I really could do for my poor uncle. I hope that it would not take long for uncle Tom to get the free glucose meter.
